Maryland Democratic Party Resolution: Utilize Unionized Establishments

RESOLUTION TO UTILIZE UNIONIZED ESTABLISHMENTS 4.29.14

WHEREAS for decades, Democrats have stood alongside labor unions in defense of fair pay and economic security, and

WHEREAS Union members have been a key part of the Democratic Party, organizing for elections and on issues such as health reform, minimum wage, retirement security, and greater accountability in the public and private sectors, and

WHEREAS much of what we now take for granted—the 40-hour work week, the minimum wage, health insurance, paid leave, pensions, Social Security and Medicare—were made possible by the hard work and dedicated struggle of America’s labor movement, and

WHEREAS when labor unions are strong, our middle class grows, now

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Maryland Democratic Party will utilize unionized establishments for events whenever possible and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Maryland Democratic Party will strongly encourage candidates and elected officials to utilize unionized establishments and services for their fundraisers and other events whenever possible.

Yvette Lewis, Chair signing on behalf of the Maryland Democratic Party Executive Committee.
